ABOUT US
Vesica has been established to inspire awe and wonder through the magic of art. In a world where distractions are many and authentic experiences can be hard to find, we seek to capture imaginations and bring things so wonderful that common distractions are powerless to the experience at hand.
We believe this holds a key to the activation of a deeper understanding of the subjective human experience. Through collaboration with established international creators as well as the cultivation and promotion of New Zealand based fabricators, we seek to spread the good word through the South Pacific and enable wonderful things to transpire.
In 2019 we will be beginning this adventure by showcasing and touring select works by our good friends and Oakland based duo HYBYCOZO. We look forward to seeing you out there.
ANTHONY VAN DORSTEN - FOUNDER
The establishment of Vesica has allowed my creative energies to be channelled fully into a project that seeks to galvanise communities through unbridled creation. I see my role as the facilitator of the artist - patron - participant relationship.
From a historical standpoint, one the most fruitful times of imaginative genius was the Florentine renaissance. The underlying mechanism that gave rise to this period was the easy flow of capital from the elite to creatives through the famous Wool Guild (Arte della lanna), which gave rise to abundant civic art for everybody to enjoy.
If this patron - artist - participant relationship is as symbiotic and as healthy in New Zealand in 2018 as it was in Italy in the 14th century, we will inspire the next generation of big thinking artists and creative collaborators to dream bigger and create new paradigms of creative expression. A colourful, more exciting future for New Zealand.
That is my vision. Vesica is the business vehicle I will drive to create that vision.
HENRY GORDONĀ - FOUNDER
I believe the human spirit is most alive and buoyant when the individual it is within is being creative, in any way, shape or form. I see Vesica as a means to break boundaries and inspire deeper questions about the generic collective hallucination that we share. If the veil is lifted and the individual believes in themselves it will unleash dormant creativity and wonderful things will transpire. Large scale and immersive art is a means for this inspiration and our goal is to collaborate, create and cultivate the genre in the South Pacific.
